Take Flight

from CHF 60.00

I first visited Greece back in summer 2001. Stepping off a boat in the early morning. I still remember breakfast. Black coffee. Thick, rich yoghurt with honey. That first day we cycled along the coast, looking for the Durrell’s old house. Lighting a fire on a pebble beach as night fell. Eating halva and playing chess. Then swimming, much later, in the dark water. Still warm. That night we slept under olive trees. Too poor for a hotel.
How much has changed. The boom and the crash. The horrors of austerity and the refugee crisis. The rise and fall of the far right. And the rest.
Though the sea is still warm. And breakfast just the same.

Photographed in Athens, Greece in November 2019.
