Fast Trains
Taking buses in foreign cities used to be much more of an adventure. When they didn’t have digital displays. And I didn’t have a phone telling me where I am. When to get off. Once in Tehran I couldn’t find my way and an old man approached me to ask if I was lost. I told him where I was going and he insisted on taking the bus with me. On paying for my ticket. And then, when it turned out we had to change buses, on getting off and explaining to the next bus driver exactly where to set me down. I wonder how many such moments of random kindness I miss these days. How many adventures. With my phone in my hand. That blinking blue dot. Knowing exactly where I am.
